Spore demo at SXSW
Will Wright lead the Keynote for SXSW (South by Southwest), an interactive festival held in Austin today. First up, we’ve got a tape of the demo:

There’s more footage coming (of Will Wright talking), but we’ll have to wait for the HD processors to catch up. I’ll keep you posted!

I love that kind of gameplay where you have a sudden realization that you are as big as the big thing you saw earlier in the game and spore looks like that (at least in tidepool).

I cannot believe I missed this, ugh!
Although, it was nice being there for the other events/panels, it just would’ve been nice to see this in person.
I swear, every video I keep seeing makes me anticipate this more and more. I just hope it lives up to the hype, but that’s never an easy thing to do.

Forgot to mention. The editor alone would be worth the price for me. I mean, I could see myself playing with that aspect of the game alone, and then to think there’s more to it? Wow, pretty neat.

This is the first video I’ve seen that has really shown more detail on the spore level, most zoom by this stage but it’s the namesake - it’s called spore, not tribe (already taken) or space exploration.

Its amazing how the game has grown since it’s first public screening, though I foresee a VERY dark future when this hits the shelves. There will be YouTube videos of giant carnivore penises and god knows what else, you know what the greater mass of users is capable of :P …

hey i got a question here. everything seems a lot more cartoony and looked a little buggier than the other 35 minute video. is the cartoonier look going to be part of the finished product? i know its not gold yet so of course it has bugs those are excused. but the cartoony thing just kind of seemed odder to me.

You got my hopes up to high with the title of this… I though Will had released a demo… But none the less I’m glad you could get your hands on some good footage, though it was amature; I cannot complain because I would myself do worse :P

The space game looks nice, but the creature mode looks so kiddy! I liked the interface they showed at E3 2006 the best. This is too cluttered and kiddy!

U know what would suck? If all the stages (tide pool, space, etc.) were sold separately as expansion packs. This just came to mind because I was thinking of Will Wright’s many expansions of The Sims.
