The day has come my friends: a day we’ve long awaited. A real release date! Spore will be released on March 3, 2008 Update: EA has posted Spore will be on store shelves September 7, 2008. Hopefully this date sticks!

Spore is one of the most epic games to ever hit the market. At GDC '05 we saw our first glimpse of Spore and have been eagerly waiting in anticipation since. The current estimated actual release date is September 7, 2008.

What tells us this is real? Do they get sued if they put a release date on there and then don’t deliver? If not, they probably want you all to run over there and order the game… That way, they secure you as a customer to THEM and not to the other companies that didn’t lie about a release date. Ummm….has anyone ever thought to check the official Spore site? I’m pretty sure if a release date had been officially announced it would be there too. Never trust vendor release dates. It’s pretty irresponsible for a fan site that reveals news about a game still in development to announce that an official release date has been announced when the game’s creators have not yet even done so. If you’re going to report news, do it right and stick with known facts. It may well be that the game will actually be released on March 3, 2007; but until Wil Wright says so, you shouldn’t either.

You guys are so gullible. Just because amazons and total spore said it would be out, doesn’t mean its going to be out on that date.
I mean, amazons lied about it be for, and if the games still being developed its not likely it will com out on any of the dates you’ve heard of, not to mention that march is seven months away.
Not that I’m a fan of xspore, and I would LOVE for it to be march or sooner, its just there’s no one else is saying when it will be out, not even the people making it.

I’m just basing my statements off the fact that the “Spore is Finished” article says that spore will do some nitty-gritty fixing and that the game is basically finished. Also, all the other release dates that I’ve heard all point to somewhere around march.
So I don’t think it’s necessary to have one website dedicate an article just to call a competing site a bunch of morons. Then have “morons” make an article about being able to pre-order spore.
Besides, the information is based off of morons who run on of the biggest online sale companies in the world! (’ ‘ ‘ ‘(o ,..,0)/’ ‘ ‘ ‘) thank you for your time.

EA reps have said that this is not the release date, and not to expect it till fiscal year 09. that is on the G4 site. you can take this for what it is, but that is what it appears EA is “officially” saying.

So, where is the proof that this is real? all i see is an amazon date, if I’m not mistaken Amazon had Starcraft Ghost up for preorder, so how can i trust that the date is accurate?

Amazon pre-orders are meaningless. They had Ghost up with a release date this year back around the Starcraft 2 announcement, and they had Duke Nukem Forever up in 2001.
In fact, the March release date is impossible: The official word is still sometime in fiscal year 2008 at the earliest:
(Patrick Buechner): “So as our new CEO John Riccitiello said in his first call with Wall Street analysts back in May was that Spore was tracking toward the cusp of our fiscal year which ends in March of 2008. For business purposes we weren’t going to play the launch in this fiscal year and so nothing has changed since then. It’s still around that time frame but for business purposes it’s being planned for next fiscal year, which begins April 1st.”
Note that, since then, words like “indefinitely delayed” and “Calender Year 2009″ have been used, but fiscal year 2008 is still the goal.

Wow! I was just watching G4’s attack of the show, and it showed a short bit of the Japanese game show, and it showed a guy PLAYING SPORE!!!
It wasn’t very clear but you could totally make out some one playing the cell game of spore. And if what I sow is correct, then the release date might be true!
If you go on the G4 TV website you might be able to watch it, but I haven’t seen it there yet.

Does this strike no one as odd? Come on! I’ve been avidly waiting for Spore for over two years now, and even I can say it’s probably not real. Here’s my reasoning:
1. This has been seen countless times before.
2. EA stated it to be coming out in the 09 fiscal year, so March is too soon.
3. Since when is Amazon reliable for game release dates?
Keeping in mind that I want this game as much as, if not more than, many of you; I’m going to wait til I hear something REAL.

I mean I’m going to wait until I hear something DIRECTLY from EA or Will Wright, because over the course of a couple years waiting for this game I’ve seen it now go from September 2006 all the way back to March 3rd 2008.
Granted, the specifics of the release date are to be noted. Most if not all previous release dates were stated in broader terms such as “March 2008″ or “Q2 2008″ or even “TBD” so I can respect that it’s more specific.
Something else to be considered: Can anyone give me a cross-reference for this release date? That means (for those of you who don’t know): Can someone link another site with the same release date and as many others as you can find so we can assume, using various sources of similarity, that it is factual in basis. I have a rule of thumb I follow for things like this. Obviously, when a company developing or publishing a game gives a release date it is most accurate and normally immune to this rule of mine, but in the cases of a non-offiliated source (or suspected source) giving the information I like to follow my little rule. My rule is this:
If I find the same date on 3 sites which don’t use one another for information, then I’ll believe it.
So? Can anyone tell me another 2 sites that have this date posted? Even 1 more?

I got excited when I read this, but then I checked my good online supplier of video games, Best Buy, and alas… The pre-order page says “Releases 31 Aug/08.”. I’m hoping this is a pessimistic guess compared to amazons optimistic one, but I’m really starting do doubt I’ll see this game in the near future…

If this Amazon release date information truly means nothing, then there’s going to be some …. to pay, because I just pre-ordered it, and it’s illegal to extend a delay beyond what you previously promised AFTER making it available for purchase unless you simply ran out of stock.
Additionally, I think if EA doesn’t give us a definite date soon on their own, there will be a genuine gamer riot, hundreds of thousands of furious gamers storming EA headquarters, overturning desk blotters and pinning beaurocratic executives to the floor until they get their way. We have the word on the game’s development. We know it’s playable RIGHT NOW. We also know the reason they haven’t yet released it is that EA doesn’t have the money to do so in their budget during this quarter due to poor planning and worse communications. Therefore, I was counting on April first, second or third as a release date anyway.
For the record, if I had to wait a month longer than this to get the game, I won’t be bothered too much by it, except that, as I said, it’s illegal to promise something you can’t deliver. If this is unreliable information, then Amazon should be sued until it no longer has the money to stand up straight. If it is reliable information, then EA should get off their behinds and admit that themselves, but the news that Spore was in its alpha build stage means, to me, that there will be no more delays because there is no logical reason for them.
If there are any more delays, it will be because EA is afraid of revolutionary new experiences in gaming, which was why Wright formed Maxis to begin with. Let’s just get the ins and outs of this game out in the open at last, and stop making presentations and trailors and advertisements and lying on television about it if you don’t think it’ll ever be released, mmkay?

It is proven that there is a Creature Editor demo being released, so where they are going to fit that in between now and the so-called “Official Release Date”, I don’t know.

The official site said a while ago it woudl be released in the financial year 08/09. The financial year 08/09 starts on 1st april 08 until 31 march 09.

remember, fical 09 is not in 2009 but in 2008. They intended to release spore in september now about 1/2 a year later, I think we can safely say its coming out next year in the first half. But then again gamespot had Q2 2008 as a release date, now its TBA, so I don’t know, maybe it will be a surprise…

it takes a couple years to make the game and another while for them to check the game for errors and bugs in case something is in the game that shouldn’t be there.
i watched g4 on the game assassin’s creed and that is how i found out so they said assassin’s creed was on hold so they could check for errors. supposably it was on hold for a couple of months.

How do you know that this release date is not a fake? A lot of sites put up a release date to get orders… but then a lot of them have to move it, becouse the game is still not released by the publisher.
And Maxis, Will Wright nor any other company or man who has anything to do with Spore has not said anything officially about the release date, except for “march, april or may”…
So Im sorry if Im killing some smiles :/ but I don’t think you have a guarantee that that accually is a release date… It’s probably just the date when amazon gets the games, or something

It’s amusing to read all the speculation about the release date. Come on folks, it’s NOT READY. Stop saying it is. No software company can afford to sit around twiddling their thumbs. The game may be playable, but there’s so much more to a software release than the actual code. I work in software QA and I just can’t believe the the code would be frozen more than 6 months before the GA date. It just doesn’t happen. What’ll likely happen is that improvement will continue to be made until the start of the final QA regression pass and subsequent beta. As EA get closer to that date, they’ll raise the bar in terms of acceptable risk for each code delta. More risky deltas just won’t go in. Less risky ones will. That’s what happens, and it means a better product at the end of the day. Six months is nothing, get on with your lives, do something nice for the planet.

Yeah I agree with the others that are skeptical of the release date. Just because amazon has preorders available does not meet there is an actual release date set by EA. Take starcraft II for example, if you go to game stop you can preorder it and it’s set for a release for November 2008. Blizzard has not given a release date. Same thing goes for Starcraft Ghost. It was avaliable for preorder for 6 months after Blizzard had formally canceled the project on Bestbuy.com

Even though the ‘official’ website sucks and the intro movie is a joke and it sucks even more at describing the game, it is the official website. Im going to wait, I think this could be fake.

The SPORE OFFICIAL SITE’s flash hasnt been updated in over a year, a review hasnt been put up since august 2007, I know there are many games which don’t post up anything on the official site until release, when it is close or a demo.

Im sorry, but spore looks terrible now. It used to have amazing realistic graphics, and now it looks like a 5 year olds game. I was looking forward to it, but now i think it just looks too terrible to play.

I agree that the graphics have become extremly childish but I’ve been wanting to play this game since I was 6 (Yes I used to make up pc games in my head V-V)) So I’m not going to let a few brightly coloured monsters get in my way now I’m so sick of waiting that I wish I’d never known about it though. I wish they could realease the creature editor as a demo cause that would be so fun to play with in the mean time. Like body shop for the sims 2.

Absolute nonsense. spore has always had cartoony graphics. You’ve got to understand that this is EA who control the pursestrings keeping this game compatible with every machine under the sun. If it was PC only we’d maybe get better graphics, but the current trend at the moment is to keep a standard level of quality across the board. The fact that the creatures have their own movement may be part of the reason for the style of graphics and Will Wright obviously tips his hat to games such as populous & Mega Lo Mania

It is quite exhausting waiting for this game. No matter what the release date is, I hope they’re putting a quality effort into this game. I do think it was a shame they publicly announced it so long ago. I wish I didn’t know about it until it was ready to ship.
Somewhere above, someone said they have Spore because their dad works for Will Wright. I’ve worked in the gaming industry for years (not EA though), and I strongly doubt that’s true. But… if it were, that person’s father is likely to be fired. It is entirely against policy to allow revs of titles to be taken home, at the cost of one’s job… and never working in the industry again. Its understandable, can you imagine what would happen if this game leaked? Unless there is some sort of a playable Beta I don’t know about? heh.
